My Yoga journey on GCC Guwahati FB Page

Hello, everyone, In GCC Guwahati's 'My Fitness Journey' section today we are featuring Kakoli Thakur. She is a Delhi-based freelance journalist, Counsellor and an Internationally certified Yoga Teacher as well. She also has a YouTube well being channel.

My initiation into Yoga

It was when Swami Ramdevji made the term ‘yoga’ popular in almost every household that I cultivated an interest in the subject. I often watched him on television and started practising.
During my pregnancy period, I read an article about prenatal yoga that had a few yoga asanas and pranayamas. I kept that paper cutting. And religiously and carefully, I practised throughout my term and my pregnancy went smoothly. But, as it happens to most people, I was out of touch with yoga when I joined full-time work.

A few years hence, I started working from home, and I revived my yoga practice by watching online videos. I shot a few videos on yoga asanas and posted them on my YouTube channel. And, along with views, I got requests to upload more such videos and I obliged.

One day, while scrolling my Facebook account, I came across an advertisement about an online yoga teacher training programme from an institute in Hyderabad. And the immediate thought was — should I give it a try? Initially, I was a bit hesitant as it was online. But I joined, and over the course of the classes, I started learning the intricacies of yoga. Along with asanas, I learned about pranayama, meditation, relaxation, mudras, the basics of Ayurveda, energy anatomy, nutrition, and a lot of things in detail. I realised how yoga unites the mind, body and the soul.

And the icing on the cake was the certificate, which enabled me to teach yoga anywhere in the world. I started my yoga classes online and offline. When my first student wrote a review about my class that she finds herself relaxed after every session, I was smiling ear to ear.

Now I am a regular yoga practitioner. The best part is my husband and my teenage son practises a few asanas daily. I also make my mother practise meditation regularly over the phone. Looking forward to continuing my journey as a yoga teacher and spreading the benefits of this ancient practice.
